Goldfield Ghost Town
March 26, 2010
Finally made our trip to
Goldfield!
Cold weather and wind has kept us from visiting sooner. With all the
dust, it wouldn't be fun on a windy day. We wandered around town
briefly and didn't really spend a lot of time at Goldfield. We wanted
to go farther up the Apache Trail road toward Tortilla Flats. Here a
few pictures we took with some comments where appropriate.
Our day trip continued up toward
Tortilla Flats thinking we
would go as far as the asphalt road would take us. Remember? Our
truck does rollbacks when it sees dirt roads! As it turned out, there
was a hug arroyo filled with water right at the town's east edge that
stopped everyone from going any farther. It was spring break, and the
town was packed jam full of people. Lines were ridiculously long to
get ice cream or anything else, so we called it a trip and turned around.
The drive up the Trail was gorgeous, though, with
several kinds of wildflowers blooming and green, green hills. Amazing
how green the dessert was this year. A few days before our trip to
Goldfield, I took a drive to try to capture some pictures to remind us.
These top two pictures are along I-8 at the south end of Casa Grande.
The grasses were getting so long, they almost looked like they need to be
mowed!

In the middle of a large intersection in Casa
Grande is about a block of green. There were Jack rabbits
everywhere! Literally, everywhere running back and forth.
Whodathunkit, but how fun to watch! |
